Route Map

Starting Point Durrow

Outlined on the map above is an initial looped cycle, which takes in three wonderful local museums, namely The Irish Fly Fishing & Game Shooting Museum, in Attanagh, Aylward’s Rural Heritage Museum and Bob’s Museum Bar in Durrow. Also outlined is the option to turn right upon exiting Aylward’s Museum, and heading to Abbeyleix Heritage House, taking in the Demesne Classic Cars Museum along the way.

After collecting you bicycles, depart Durrow, on the N77 Kilkenny Road. After passing Knockatrina and Derry Woods, where a memorial to the history of Durrow Brick, can be found at the entrance to Derry Wood, take the first left hand turn, and immediately you will cycle over the River Nore, on what is known as Tallyho Bridge.
Continue on to Attanagh, which was once the home to Attanagh Railway Station, and the Durrow Brick & Tile Company. Attanagh Post Office is situated on the left hand side as you enter the village, and at the crossroads just beyond, turn left and the Irish Fly Fishing & Game Shooting Museum is situated almost immediately on your left hand side.

Upon leaving here, turn left and follow the road until you arrive at a slightly staggered crossroads (Fermoyle Cross), on the L1736, Durrow/Ballinakill road. Go straight through the crossroads and continue on to the next crossroads (Brandra Cross) where you turn left. As you approach the N77, Durrow to Abbeyleix Road, Aylward’s Rural Heritage Museum is situated on your left hand side.

To visit Bob’s Museum Bar, alongside the picturesque River Erkina in Durrow, simply turn left after leaving Aylward’s and follow the road straight back to Durrow, where Bob’s is situated on the right hand side, immediately after crossing over the bridge.

Please note: It is necessary to check with all museums, as to their opening hours, prior to your cycle, to ensure access and avoid disappointment!
